Knitting in Secret.

2038524025_d892059038_o.jpg

Yesterday marked a milestone for me and my boyfriend. He finally accepted my knitting in public. Granted, he was very skeptical when I first started which made me either want to knit 24-7 just to show him, or to knit in a closet where people wouldn't feel awkward.

Understandably he thought that if I were to knit in public, I would sit in a corner and not talk to anyone, feverishly working like some old grandma in the corner. You know, the awkward person in the crowd that doesn't really join in, but she's there anyway so you're not quite sure how to handle her? He was afraid that would be me.

But I did win him over! This weekend was full of friends, frolicking and lots of sweater knitting. So ladies, how did I win him over? Let me share some advice;

If you are trying to convince one that knitting in public is not as nerdy as it seems, you should make an extra effort to make it look cool! Bring your coolest project and DON'T talk about it. People will be curious, but non-knitters just don't care enough to ask you about it, but they'll be intrigued (as opposed to nerded out). Also, TALK A LOT. If people are gonna think you're antisocial, well sorry mister! I'm going to talk your face off and knit this row at the same time! Last but not least, participate! Not only did I knit, but I played Wii, watched a couple movies and partook in several meals.

Now my boyfriend not only isn't worried about me being a knit wallflower, but he even brags about me! "Look at this cool sweater she's making..." or "Yea, she figured out all that stuff by herself!"

Happy ending!

Oh, Happy Day!

Well, you are now reading the blog of a RESIDENT MANAGER of my apartment building! It is 15 extra hours a week, but the perks are free rent and storage, art studio, larger apartment and extra $$ each month!

I'm going to be able to buy groceries!

In like a million lions.

2294558072_a47f139f7e.jpg So this winter has been pretty cold. Very cold. Yet I think it is also the first winter where I have actually gotten used to it. I didn't feel as absolutely depressed about winter as I have since moving to Milwaukee.

Now that it is March, I think this needs to change. It's March, for crying out loud! What is up with being in the 20s? When I get outside in ten minutes, I'd better be experiencing at least 40 degrees of wonderfulness. Nothing less. March it is time you shape up and start acting like that lamb I keep hearing about.

So on the new job! I took a tour of the building. Definitely photographic material. It is an old OLD building built probably in the early 1900s. It looks like it used to be an old hotel. Currently I live on the top floor but I'll be moving sometime in the next week to the second floor to a bigger apartment! Also! There is a studio space. As in, a studio space to make art work in. No excuses anymore, Anne. Oh Happy Week!

Guilty!

Well I dropped off the face of the earth. I knew that this would be the problem when I decided to keep a blog. Updating. I have things that I want to write about, but they only interest me, usually. That and I think blogs without pictures are boring. So I am going to write a boring blog entry today:

Today I start moving into the new apartment! It is a lot bigger. And windows everywhere. Pictures will soon follow. Mark and I also realized that I don't have any furniture to fill the apartment besides what is in the bedroom. So I got a book on revamping old furniture finds with sewing. Lots of French inspired patterns. CAN'T WAIT.

I'm almost finishing my first wearable sweater. HURRY UP. I don't know how all of these other people on Ravelry can have millions of finished pieces that look gorgeous. I wonder if I am a real slow knitter? Pictures also soon to follow.

Also. March. Thanks for warming up. You took a little longer than normal, but I appreciate it nonetheless.

Monday can kindly take a hike.

So here's how today started. I wake up in my brand new apartment. Oh how nice! Look out the window at the snow melting and realize....my car is not there.

Where is my car?

One of two options: Stolen or towed.

So I get to work. Spill apple juice all over my pants and my desk and my papers. Call in and find out that it has indeed been towed.

At this point, my tummy hurts and I have a headache so I figure instead of letting everyone hear me bitch, I am going to take a half day! That is a good thing, right? Half days!

So I go to Ace Hardware to pick up a couple of things before I go to pick up my car. I think everyone that worked there asked me if I needed help finding something AT LEAST twice. Pretty annoying. I felt like they either wanted me gone or I looked real dumb.

"Need help?"

"No, but thank you!"

"Need help?"

"No thanks!"

"Finding everything okay?"

"Yes, I am"

"Need help?"

"...Just looking."

"Need help?"

"NO!!"

The last one I busted out laughing. Seriously in the guys face. Quite ridiculous.

So then I go to get my tow on. $350 later my car is out. So I decide to go home and do some laundry. Lo and behold, my laundry soap has been stolen out of the laundry room.

Bring on Tuesday!

Weeks end.

Really. Please be over, week. This just isn't that cool. My problems are supposed to be solved with my new job! Not compounded!

Actually my new job is quite fun. I have this strange kick where I like cleaning things that aren't mine. It's fun!

But cat's going to the doctor, cars getting towed and ticketed again just does not solve any problems. So stop already. Stop with the snow, stop with the cold. Just be summer already. Then stay that way.

Buying myself some Art.

This weekend was a very satisfying weekend. Mark and I stopped at the White Whale Collective and were very impressed! It is a group of MIAD grads that are investing in a gallery space and putting on shows. Mark and I both bought artwork! Next time they show if anyone lives in the MKE area, check it out!

I have finally finished moving into the apartment. Now I just need to organize and rearrange. I am really struggling with whether or not I paint. It was just painted a boring white, so it's got fresh paint. But who can stand white?

April 1st is tomorrow----and I don't have to pay rent!

Other than that I am working on my own art work, everyone else around me seems to be waking up from their post-graduation slumber and making artwork. And the Thesis Show is coming up! Art is in the air. Maybe love too, but it isn't very spring-like outside, so we'll stick with art.
