New changes

So as you can see I've made a couple of visual changes to the blog. I'm going to start putting more work into this thing and documenting all sorts of hobbies I've gotten addicted to since spending a month in ICU last December. In short, here is a quick summary of what I've been doing:

- Reconnecting. This past year has been hectic. I apologize to everyone I have lost contact with. I kind of just secluded into my cave for a while out of exhaustion. I'm coming out slowly but surely, so please forgive me.

-Learning to knit/ crocheting better

-Fixing my old sewing machine, having it break again in the middle of christmas gifts, then Mark buying me a new one

-Working in admissions

-Traveling to New Orleans and making it my life goal to move there.

-Doing some illustrations, possibly combining my newfound obsession with fibers with my new obsession with drawing everything with bestine. Felted illustrations? Totally kitsch!!!

So there you have it. I've been busy. In my little studio apartment with my cats. I'm turning into the cat lady. I've got so much fur stuck to my slacks it's ridiculous.

Knitful

Crochet, actually. This was one of the first "official" projects I did. That was actually usable. All of my first projects went to someone else, so I don't really have too much to show for my own skills, whenever I say, "Oh yea, I knit and crochet!" That and I always start several projects at once. Doesn't everyone? I don't really finish them. Everyone does that too.

But really, I decided that I should make myself stuff. I mean, what fun is it if you can't show it off? In the works: cuff of a pair of socks, half a sweater, and a bunch of flowers that I'm going to stick on things. This weekend I'm going to photograph it all. I've been neglecting my flickr and I've been to New Orleans and back since the new year. Time for some photos!!!

New Orleans

I am absolutely in LOVE with New Orleans. I always had heard about it, and knew that if I were to ever visit there I would fall in love. Boy did I ever. It is MY city. I need to move there right now!

I think this really surprised my mom and dad. In many ways. Firstly, we were there for the surgery. I didn't really get to sight-see and surgeries are always full of anxiety, so even if I did sight-see, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it. Also, all of the post-Katrina scars are still very visible and very real. Most people would want to shy away from this. Understandably so. But there was so much character in the city and in the people, that I don't think a hundred hurricanes would have destroyed their charm. Even though we were out-of-towners, everyone treated us as though we were lifetime buddies. And of course, compared to the Milwaukee Tundra, the weather was especially enjoyable. Oh yea, and the surgery was (actually!) a success! A grand trip indeed.

Here's my dad's take.

Embellish.

Pin Up Flower So I'm thinking these flowers are a good way to use up extra yarn left over. I've gotten a lot of comments about this flower (my mom made the scarf) so I want to make some for everyone! They are from the Happy Hooker book, and are real quick.

This week, I want to take lots of photographs of my millions of projects for Ravelry. Nerdy, I know, but I got the invite on Friday and that's how I spent my weekend. A well deserved, lazy weekend I might add. For the past SIX weekends, I have been in-transit across the country. Time to settle in! My weekends are going to be clear until spring.

Also, I really would like to join a knit-group, especially since the days are getting longer. I tried to go to the Alterra one yesterday, however Allyson called, needing help putting together her set for a play she is working on. So instead of knitting, I taped.

p.s. my car is dying again
p.p.s. I am VERY awkward in conversation. But I think I like it.

Blizzard's a-comin'!

So, fellow Milwaukeeans may be getting ready for the snow that's about to coat us once again. I think before the 60mph wind and -30 wind chill hits, I'm heading on over to Loop, stopping to get some dinner and hunkering down for a night with my cats + BF.

Blah Thursday.

I'm a bit down today. Awkward news at work, cold weather and I forgot my homemade tomato soup at home.

I did start the Babette Blanket yesterday, which was very much fun. I'm going to break the bank with this blanket I'm afraid, but such is life.

Right now I am addicted to:
Nantucket Nectar's Apple Juice

Then I Need To Do:
Hem fancy pants for new work dress code
Fix broken car

...

So, pretty blaze' post. I guess if you want to be a fantastic blogger and please masses with your witty rhetoric, you should probably find exciting things to talk about.

p.s., buy art. Mine preferably.
