Scarfs and Skirts

I just picked up the Little Mermaid on DVD! Oh how I've waited patiently...

I also picked up some really nice yarn and I am currently crocheting Mark a scarf. I also started a skirt, and I like the fabric, but I picked it out from the slim-selections at Joann's Fabric. I'm not sure where another fabric store is in Milwaukee where I can pick out some thicker, nicer material, so I will have to do some research.

I have to finish my Microalgae Powerpoint today. I was doing research on all of the Pro-quest and Ebscohost databases and I was getting so frustrated because all of the articles are so specific. No one had, "What is algae?" or "How does it eat?" or anything simple that I was looking for. Finally Mark told me to just look online and online I did. I know that it isn't really encouraged, but sheesh! We aren't all science majors! It's dumb for them to expect us to get anything out of Science Journals. Art on the other hand, is easy to look up in those databases because we already know a lot of what the articles are talking about. Either way I spent about a month researching and getting fruustrated and now that it is due tomorrow I'm a little disappointed that I didn't look online earlier or that I had just asked Mark earlier (he is a bio-molecular designer for heaven's sake). But at least I have information before it's due.

Love/Hate

I am continuing to have a love / hate relationship with Illustration. On Wednesday I would have told you I just wasted four years. Today I will tell you that there's still hope!!

I keep going up and down from extreme stress to extreme relaxing as well. It's really quite a rollercoaster and it contributes to even more stress which is even more exhausting. Gah! I can't wait till graduation.

This year for Christmas I actually want presents. Around Christmas I always have something not fun like I need new tires so I have to get those. The year before was similar, but I forgot what it was. Either way, this year I want to be a fun Christmas and I am not going to be afraid to tell everyone exactly what I want. I'll be adding to my list in the mean time.

Sketch Sketch Sketch!

Two blogs in one day! Super-productive. I went to Artist and Display to buy some sweet markers that Heather recommended. I bought them and they are smooth as buttah! One of the problems that I have been having lately with Illustration is that there is no real media training. Sure, we have "illustration media" as a class, but it is merely throwing things at us and saying, "Have at!!" It's not very informative and I think it also scares you away from other medias that are supposed to be a major "no-no" like markers. Well, I'm using markers and I'm doing fine.

Mark's scarf is coming along pretty well, except that I am crocheting it really tight. I don't want it to be lacy and girly, but I am experiencing some ferocious stitching situations.

Also I am having craaaazy leg cramps when I sleep. Supposedly one of the main causes is not stretching before bed and not staying hydrated. Well I've been stretching and hydrating all day and it feels as if any moment I am going to have another leg cramp.

I'm reading a lot of other blogs to get into the mood of blogging. I never knew there was such a culture! This kind of goes back to my other entry about why would someone keep a blog and I'm finding that even though I have no idea who reads this, I feel like if I put some idea out there, that at least someone may come along with the same idea and read it as well. What a crazy idea.

Busy!

I just found a whole bunch of other classmates websites and they are all clean and crisp! There are so many things that I need to fix, design and technical-wise but I have no time! (except to post blogs of course!) This weekend is fall break, so maybe I will work a little bit on some artwork, but this winter I should have my website nice and polished.

I have just finished working on my contract to give to clients and it makes me feel real businessy.

I want to do an illustration for Illustration Friday, but I just don't have the time! Maybe a quick something from my sketchbook someday.

I received an email from Rachel and it made me feel real happy.
I miss my Rachel.

Illustration Friday

So it isn't Friday at all, but I actually got this done! Here she is:

The theme was "Trouble." Hiyo!

coooold aiiirr

So it snowed yesterday. It's October. Not only October, but a relatively early October. Then I drove down my street today and all the leaves were suddenly missing from the trees! This winter is coming too fast! Now I'm sitting by my electric heater to get warm. (the only way to get warm by an electric heater is to sit right by it)

I am going to draw a rooster on a t-shirt drinking a beer for my manager tonight. I don't get the joke, but I think it's hilarious.

Right now I'm reading Son of a Witch from the author of Wicked, which I read in Ireland. He is a really good writer, and he creates really dramatic visual images, but sometimes I pull myself out of the story and realize, "This is about the Wizard of Oz......." so it makes me feel real nerdy. Just how reading Harry Potter books twice makes me feel real nerdy too.

Also, thank you to those who commented! I love getting feedback, so feel free to critique!

Fall Break

I had a whole schedule planned for this fall break that revolved all around homework and cleaning. And so far I've gone to Madison and back to hang out with the lovely ladies, Lisa and Meg. hah!

Madison was a very cute town, though! I have never been, and it was SWARMING with college kids. It was surreal, like a town that was just the East Side in Milwaukee. It was a fun place, but even I can get sick of the East Side sometimes, so I don't know how many can live there that aren't part of the college.

We stopped on the way back to Milwaukee at the JoAnn's Fabric store. I was looking for PIMA cotton, and I asked some lady. She started naming off brand names and stuff, and what I thought was a very polite voice, I said, "Oh no, PIMA cotton isn't a brand, it's kind of like a type of cotton." After I said that, this old bag stopped and said, "Well, I know! I am sixty after all, and I have heard of it! You think I'm stupid?" I was so taken aback! Who in the world is this rude?! I kind of didn't say anything to her, but she kept talking to me about what they DID have and I just sort of turned around and muttered a thank you at her and walked away. As I was walking away she said to the next customer, "Jeez, when was the last time you heard anyone ask for PIMA cotton??"

Either I must be really insane with my requests, or she's just a bitter old woman.

Weekend

I am so lazy as of late! I have a lot to do before I have to hang my show on Friday too, so I need to step up various paces.

Now that I have a blog I feel I should be updating it with new and refreshing content.

I need to be more new and refreshing.

Addiction

So I have these periods where I am really on the internet way too much for my own good. It's pretty ridiculous. I haven't had an internet binge in quite a while (a couple of years) but I think with getting back into the website-makin' business, trying to network with illustration and a general lack of computer-intensive classes, I'm going overboard. I don't even do useful stuff like actually work on my site too. It's just to roam around and find things that really don't enrich my life too much. I love it! (but I don't at the same time)

I'm trying to print off this thing, and MIAD's network is crazy and I should be working on promotional postcards, but I don't have the specific file I want, and maybe I could do botany, but that's just a whole other can of worms. I need to be MOTIVATED.
